About York Central Hospital

York Central Hospital has been taking care of you and your community for over four decades. “Our commitment to you is to provide excellence in quality health care, partnering with other providers to meet the needs of individuals and our community."

To ensure we maintain and improve our standard of high quality care and continue to fulfill our important role in Southern York Region, in November 2005, York Central Hospital started construction on the long-awaited redevelopment and expansion. This plan will create a health centre that will be able to meet need for quality health care for our ever growing community for many years to come.

York Central Hospital Foundation’s mission is to raise funds for York Central Hospital for equipment and facilities, not funded by the government, that are needed by our hospital to meet the health care requirements of our rapidly growing community.

Your participation of the 3rd Share the Spirit of Care 5k Run/Walk is supporting York Central Hospital’s Breast Health Centre within the Diagnostic Imaging Department

York Central Hospital currently performs 11,000 “routine” and Ontario Breast Screening Program mammograms. Only 40% of women over 50 years of age have regular mammograms. Our goal, and that of the Ontario Breast Screening Program, is to double this to 80% by the year 2010. If we are successful, the waiting times will grow even longer than they already are.

…with your support our plan is to

The expanded Diagnostic Imaging Department will grow from 12,000 square feet to 28,000 square feet. Integral to the expanded service and new technology will be our Breast Health Centre. This 10 room, 2,000 square foot dedicated facility will include waiting room, diagnostic screening suites and state-of-the-art Digital Mammography and Ultrasound Biopsy technology…everything required to allow our medical team focus on our patients’ physical and emotional health.

The new Breast Health Centre purchase of this state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment will mean:

  • 25 more women per day will be able to receive mammograms at York Central Hospital
  • 6,000 will receive mammograms in York Region every year
  • More women will have a better prognosis with the early detection of breast cancer
  • A less invasive biopsy process
  • Quicker turnaround time on biopsy results will reduce the time patients will wait for results helping to reduce anxiety for patients and their loved ones
  • Improved accuracy and efficiency that will result in more breast cancer survivors

Directly or indirectly, breast cancer touches us all. We have the power to minimize its impact – on thousands of women, their families, and potentially someone we know.

Thank you for doing what you can to help.
